Performance: Shall We Dance? Series: Symphonic Location: Warner Theatre

September 26, marks the start of Music Director Daniel Meyer’s third year with the Erie Philharmonic. The Phil’s 96th season begins with Opening Night: Shall We Dance? at 8 PM at the Warner Theatre.

“Another season is upon us and I couldn’t be more excited,” Conductor Meyer said. “Our 2009-2010 season, presented by Scott Enterprises, includes some of the most excellent music of today as well as treasured classics to create a diverse and engaging season of music.”

“Our Erie Insurance Symphonic Season is book-ended with music featuring the powerful and passionate piano with the drama of Verdi’s Requiem in between. Our Hanes Erie Pops Season features music centered around Halloween and the Holidays with favorites from the 70’s and some Broadway as well.”

Opening Night features young rising star and award winner Konstantin Soukhovetski performing Saint Saens’ Piano Concerto No. 2. Born in Russia, Soukhovetski won First Prize and Audience Prize at the 2007 New Orleans International Piano Competition. This season he will perform with orchestras throughout the country and will embark on his third 16-performance tour of South Africa next spring.

Also on the program are Rachmaninoff’s beloved Symphonic Dances and Maskats’ Tango. Pre-concert entertainment in the Warner lobby features the Tango Club of Erie.

Classics in the Evening with WQLN’s Wally Faas, a pre-concert discussion, will be presented in the First Niagara Community Room adjacent to the Warner Theatre beginning at 7:15 pm. It is free to ticket holders.

Tickets prices for the show range from $15 - $50. Discounts are available for students, groups, and seniors, and $10 Rush Tickets will be available 15 minutes before show time. Doors open at 7 p.m.

The 2009-2010 season is presented by Scott Enterprises. The Symphonic Series is sponsored by Erie Insurance,WQLN and JET Radio. This Saturday’s performance is in memory of Pauline Scott.
